NorFor has new climate parameters
From 2nd of November 2022 NorFor users of NFRO, DMS, Optfôr, IndividRAM, TypFoder and FoderOpti can find new features in the Feeedstuff table (FST) and Feed Ration Calculator (FRC). Now you can calculate climate impact of farm’s forages.

It is now possible to calculate climate impact of cultivation and carbon sequestration of some forages as grass-clover forages, maize silage, maize cob silage and fodder beets. New inputs are three variables that affect climate impact and carbon sequestration the most. These are harvest yield, application of manure nitrogen and fertilizer nitrogen per hectare, and year. Hence it is possible to calculate farm specific climate impact and land requirement
Since 2013, NorFor FRC has been able to estimate methane emission of cows and growing cattle based on diets given on the farms. Climate impact of animals’ methane, cultivation of feeds, carbon sequestration in soil, manure and avoided fertilizer are updated, and are summed up per animal, per kg DM. For lactating cows can also be estimated per kg ECM and for growing cattle per kg average daily gain.
100 years global warming potential of carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e) is used in NorFor according to IPCC (2014). The CO2e factor of methane and nitrous oxide are updated to 28 and 265, respectively.
