NorFor unavaiable from 17:00 (CET) on 2 June 2026

NorFor’s energy model is updated and released 2 June 2026 at 17:00 (CET). 

Feed Ration Calculator (FRC), Feed Stuff Table (FST), and One-day Feeding Control (OFC) will be unavailable from 17:00 CET and for approximately 1-2 hours. 

Updated energy value of ethanol 

The energy value of ethanol is increased in the NorFor model based on Danish research showing that milk production was maintained when part of the maize silage was replaced with ensiled sugar beets. The diets contained 18% ensiled sugar beets (on a DM basis), which were cleaned, crushed, and ensiled without additives. Most of the sugar was fermented into ethanol.

In NorFor, the gross energy of ethanol has been revised. Previously, it was assumed to be the same as carbohydrates (18.1 MJ/kg), but it has now been updated to 29.8 MJ/kg according to The Biochemistry of Silage. This adjustment applies to 80% of ethanol, based on studies showing that, on average, 80% of ingested ethanol is absorbed in the rumen.
